Alix graduated from Glasgow Vet School in 2002. After a couple of years in first opinion practice, she undertook a rotating internship at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket. She then returned to Glasgow Vet School where she did a clinical residency in small animal medicine followed by a Masters in Veterinary Medicine. She worked at the Vets Now Hospital in Glasgow for 2 years before returning to the University of Glasgow as a clinician/teacher in 2011. That year she became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons. Alix returned to the Vets Now Hospital in Glasgow in 2021.

Alix is a Board member of the European Society of Veterinary Nephrology and Urology and an adviser to the Board of the VetTrust. She enjoys all aspects of internal medicine and has particular interests in kidney and urinary tract diseases as well as investigating swallowing disorders.
