Thrive at work. Flourish at home.

Get the best of both worlds with a weekend-only contract, available for vets and vet nurses across the UK.

Thought working out of hours meant working all hours? Think again. At Vets Now, many of our vets and vet nurses have found that working weekends allows them to focus on what matters most – providing exceptional emergency and critical care when pets and owners need it most, while still protecting valuable time away from work.

These roles are ideal for those who want to make a real impact in ECC, while maintaining balance at home.

Frequently asked questions

Will I have to work sole charge?

Our weekend shifts are among our busiest times, and you’ll always have a team around you for support. However, in some smaller clinics, there may be times when you’ll work independently.

Will I have to work during the night?

Most of our weekend roles are daytime positions, but this varies by clinic. Night shifts may occasionally be available for those who prefer them.

Will I have to work every weekend?

Weekend-only contracts do involve regular weekend work, and some roles will require full weekends to ensure clinics are fully staffed. We do offer different rota options depending on clinic needs, and we’ll discuss what works best for both you and the team during your application process.

Who are these roles for?

Anyone looking to combine meaningful work with balance. Whether you’re:

  • A vet or nurse keen to develop ECC skills without changing your full-time role
  • A parent returning to work and seeking predictable, regular hours
  • A clinician wanting to add ECC experience to your CV
  • Weekend contracts offer the opportunity to contribute to life-saving care while keeping time for what matters most.
What benefits do weekend staff receive?

You’ll enjoy enhanced pay rates and a full package of benefits – including paid RCVS and VDS fees, private medical insurance, CPD allowance, holiday pay, and parental leave. We can also support you in studying for an ECC certificate as part of your ongoing development.

What support will be available to me?

Teamwork is really important to us. Being part of the permanent Vets Now family will involve sharing information, regular coaching and mentoring, and our senior staff will support your CPD goals too.

Can I visit the clinic before I start?

Absolutely. We encourage prospective team members to visit their chosen clinic before applying. You’ll meet the Principal Vet, see the facilities, and get a feel for the environment. To arrange a visit, email [email protected].
