Working with Charities - Vets Now Jobs

Together, we give something back

At Vets Now we’re proud to support a range of wonderful charities who share in our purpose of giving people and their pets the care and support when they need it most.

Pet Blood Bank

  • Launched in 2007, PBB is a ground-breaking and unique not-for-profit organisation providing a canine blood bank service for all veterinary practitioners across the UK — and it’s the only charity of its kind in the country.
  • The aim of PBB is to advance animal health and welfare and to relieve suffering by providing quick and convenient access to blood. Similar to the human blood service, dog owners kindly bring along their canine companions to give blood at one of the charity’s many sessions.
  • In addition to providing blood and ancillary products to the profession, PBB conducts lectures and workshops at conferences and regional CPD events to increase awareness and advance transfusion medicine.

Vets Now Angel Fund

In 2017 we launched our own charitable initiative in the shape of our hugely popular Angel Fund. Every year our vets are given £1000 from this fund to provide emergency care to critically-ill pets whose owners cannot afford treatment costs and stray animals who might otherwise face euthanasia.

Our vet nurses and other clinic staff will are encouraged to nominate suitable cases for treatment. This initiative underlines our commitment to giving people and their pets the care and support they deserve, at the time they need it most.

The idea for an Angel Fund came directly from our clinical teams who expressed concern about having to put pets to sleep because there was no one in a position to pay for their treatment. This is not only heartbreaking but can also contribute to compassion fatigue.

Working with PDSA

  • We enjoy a close working relationship with the PDSA, one of our first out-of-hours partners. As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting the work of the PDSA, Vets Now offers discounted emergency out-of-hours treatment to pet owners registered for its Pet Care scheme.

Working with Street Vet Birmingham

  • We are also proud to provide out-of-hours care to the pets of homeless people registered with StreetVet in Birmingham, as well as ensuring its VDS cover enables Vets Now staff to volunteer for the charity.

StreetVet was set up by volunteer vets three years ago to ensure homeless people had more widespread access to veterinary treatment.
