Flexible programme will give our ACAs the chance to enhance their skills in emergency

We’re proud to announce the launch of our Animal Care Assistant (ACA) Development Programme.

The programme is open to all ACAs within the company and consists of eight modules, which can all be completed online at the participant’s leisure.

Modules include biosecurity in the veterinary environment, patient handling, assisting with euthanasia and laboratory work.

At Vets Now, we employ more than 200 ACAs, out of a total of more than 1,200 staff and all of them earn at least £10 an hour, which is above the ‘real’ living wage.

Racheal Marshall, our head of clinical nursing who drew up the programme along with Rachael Bacon, Jonny Luckett and Craig McPhee, says:

“Our ACAs are important to us – they play a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of each clinic, and we launched this programme in response to feedback we received during a recent survey of ACAs and principal staff.

“Our aim is to provide ACAs with relevant and useful CPD, that’s also flexible and can be completed at a time that suits the individual.

“Each of the eight modules amounts to two hours of CPD, so there’s a total of 16 available here for every ACA within Vets Now.

“We’re proud to be delivering such a great initiative. Previously, it was hard to find CPD that focused on the needs of ACAs working within an emergency setting. It’s crucial for our ACAs to continue enhancing their skills and we’re confident that this development programme will help.”
