This Autumn, be prepared for the dark nights
Many of us are restricted to walking our dogs in low light due to a whole range of commitments. But as it gets darker in the mornings and in the evenings, it’s important to take precautions to ensure everyone stays safe.
Keep your dog safe
- Keep your dog on a short lead: Helps maintain control in low visibility conditions.
- If your dog wears a jacket, consider a reflective one: Reflective gear improves visibility for drivers and cyclists.
- Have a light-up collar or clip-on LED lights: These make your dog more visible from a distance in the dark.
Keep yourself safe
- Stick to familiar walking routes: This helps avoid unexpected hazards and ensures you know your way in low light.
- Remember to take your phone: Important for emergencies or navigation if needed.
- Wear bright clothing: Increases your visibility to others, especially motorists.
- Walk with others if possible: There’s safety in numbers, especially after dark.
- Carry a torch or wear a head torch: Helps illuminate your path and make you easier to spot.
