Electrochemotherapy: An Introduction For Referring Patients. Free CPD
Electrochemotherapy: An Introduction For Referring Patients. Free CPD
Learn how to identify patients who may benefit from electrochemotherapy and when referral could be the right next step.
Electrochemotherapy (ECT) is an increasingly useful option for managing certain cutaneous and subcutaneous tumours in dogs and cats, but which patients could benefit, and when should you consider referral?
During this practical CPD evening, Pamela Martin will explore how ECT works, the tumour types most likely to respond and its role alongside surgery or as a palliative treatment. We will cover its use in cases including mast cell tumours, squamous cell carcinomas, melanomas, soft tissue sarcomas and feline injection-site sarcomas.
Using clinical cases, we will discuss:
How to identify potentially suitable patients
When ECT may be considered following incomplete surgical excision
Its role in treating non-resectable tumours
Expected outcomes, limitations and potential side effects
How to explain the treatment clearly to owners
When and how to refer
This session will give first-opinion veterinary teams a clear, practical understanding of where ECT may fit within a patient’s treatment plan and help support informed conversations with owners.
