Our monthly Brave Pet Awards celebrate our bravest patients, who have still managed to wag their tails and put on a brave face despite their treatment.

Loki's story

Our story doesn't have such a happy ending however it was something special that the surgery team had so much compassion. They were honest with us, shed tears with us and helped us send Loki on his final journey with love and affection.

Bloo suffered with blocked urethra
Bloo (Blooregard Q Kazoo)

One day Bloo was not acting his usual self and then he completely stopped urinating. Being a happy healthy fun loving cat we knew that this was something we needed to get seen to, so we took him to our local, usual vets.

Hugos Story
Lurcher Hugo was seriously ill after eating something toxic while out on a walk

Hugo, a five and a half year old lurcher, was admitted to Vets Now Barton Le Clay with a history of vomiting, diarrhoea and vomiting blood. He had been for a walk the previous day when he had been unseen for a while and had been unwell since then.

Spencers Story
Spencer is on the road to recovery after falling from a three storey window

Spencer, my 14 year old Siamese cross was found outside the back gate unable to walk. The only way out of the house was via my daughter's bedroom window which is on the top floor of a three storey town house - he must have attempted to jump or slipped. Immediately I phoned my vets who gave us the Vets Now Northampton number for out of hours.

Tyler the Tawny Owl is rushed to Vets Now in a critical condition

My Tawny Owl Tyler was rushed to Vets Now Preston late at night on the 10th August in rather critical condition after severe weight loss and lethargy. I thought I was going to lose him that night but the two vets on duty have helped save my beloved Tyler.

Henrys Story
Labrador Henry has a limitless appetite for fun and food, but he found himself in need of emergency surgery after he gobbled up some corn on the cob

Like most Labradors, 2 year old Henry has a limitless appetite for fun and food – especially leftovers! We’re always very careful what we feed him because Labradors are such greedy dogs and prone to weight gain. Vegetables are absolutely fine though – or so we believed - which is why we didn’t think twice when he crunched up leftover sweetcorn cobs.

Sydney was in grave danger after swallowing a razor blade, but pulled through surgery against all odds

Naughty two year old terrier Sydney has a thing for stealing and eating objects, but when his owner, Sharon Mitchell, saw him chewing on the remains of a razor she knew there was a strong chance he’d swallowed the blades and called Vets Now Telford immediately.

Baxter's Story
After 10 days of intensive care, English Springer Spaniel pup Baxter pulls through from severe heat stroke

Our usually crazy, bouncy, young English Springer Spaniel Baxter was rushed to Vets Now Referrals Glasgow, suffering with severe heatstroke. Baxter was a very poorly pup indeed, and after a call from our usual vet, it was decided that he should be referred to Vets Now Referrals so that he could benefit from the specialist intensive care facilities required to give him the treatment he needed.

Cassie's story
Flat Coated Retriever Cassie is back to her bouncy self after overnight care and emergency surgery

Cassie is and has always been a beautiful loyal dog. She loves everyone and is always content no matter what. When things took a turn for the worse, we did think that maybe being 12 was taking its toll and we were going to lose her. She went from playing like a puppy on the beach on Saturday, to near death on Tuesday; with the hot weather and extra panting, Cassie had begun to struggle to breath. It turned out that she was suffering a paralysis of the larynx.

Simba's story
Adventurous Simba is on the road to recovery after lots of love and care

Simba is a typical cat, and loves his adventures. He spends most of the day climbing on the window sill in the kitchen, jumping out of window and round to the front door to be let in again! He has a good check we’re all there, then off he goes again! But one day, after one of his adventures Simba came home with a swollen leg and in a lot of pain.
