Cutting Edge graduate Liron is a brilliant example of someone who has made the most of his potential by seizing opportunities, building on his skills and accepting new challenges.

Here district vet Liron Levy-Hirsch tells how Vets Now has helped him make the most of his potential.

I qualified as a veterinary surgeon in 2007 from the Hebrew University in Israel and then completed a rotating small animal internship at the university’s small animal veterinary hospital.

In 2009, my partner and I decided to relocate to the UK and continue our professional development. Although I was holding an Israeli licence to practise veterinary medicine, I was unable to practise in the UK until I’d become a member of the RCVS. I achieved this at the end of 2010 after a year of studying.

After working in several private and charity practices I decided to pursue a career with Vets Now and was invited to apply for a place on the company’s Cutting Edge induction programme. It gave me the skills and confidence to deal with emergency and critical care cases, work out of hours as a sole charge vet and develop my clinical ECC skills.

I met some amazing people who supported me along the way and shared their knowledge and experience in this exciting field. In addition, I developed my communication and client care skills, a subject I feel very strongly about. This was a major turning point in my career and I consider myself lucky to be a Vets Now’s Cutting Edge graduate.

Following the Cutting Edge induction, I began working as a full-time vet at the Vets Now clinic in Northolt in north-west London. It was a busy and challenging job but it was extremely rewarding. I dealt with a huge variety of interesting cases and complicated situations but I always felt privileged to be able to provide great care and, above all, save lives. After three months I was promoted to senior vet and a year after that I was promoted to district vet.

These days I’m in charge of all five Vets Now clinics in the London area. These are in Caterham, Harrow, Ilford, Thamesmead and Tunbridge Wells. I have overall responsibility and accountability for all aspects of the service provided in my district, including clinical and financial performance, and I also oversee customer, patient and colleague care, which I’m very passionate about. I’m also involved in business-wide decisions and policies. I believe my role in Vets Now makes a real difference.

The next intake for Cutting Edge is filling up fast. We are also recruiting for more experienced vets for Refresh Your Edge. If you, or any vets you know, are interested in applying, please call the Vets Now recruitment team for more information on 01383 841181.
