Vets Now provides emergency treatment for Colchester guard dog shot in robbery

Vet's Now was this weekend called upon to provide emergency treatment for a German Shepherd guard dog who was shot in the face in a robbery in Colchester.

Max, an 18 month old German Shepherd kept watch at his owner's premises, Colchester General Repairs, but was also a much loved family pet.  The attack happened on Sunday evening and the gunman was apparently overheard shouting the dog's name before he shot him.

Upon hearing the news of the robbery and attack, owner, Mr Horwood rushed to the premises and took Max immediately to Vets Now in Colchester to perform emergency treatment to save his life.  On arrival, the team administered morphine, fluids and an anaesthetic to stabilise Max's condition; however, he had suffered terribly and since the attack was almost at point blank range much of the damage was sadly irreparable.  The Vets Now team consulted the owners and the sad decision was made to end the dog's suffering and he was put to sleep.

Owner, Mr Horwood said; "The Vets Now team worked so hard and Max was given the best care - he didn't even wince once as they tried to treat him.  He was such a brave dog and the whole family is absolutely devastated.  We're all going to miss him so much."

The police in Colchester are urging anyone who knows anything about the attack to contact them on 0300 333 444 or ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
