Ironman Sam completes gruelling challenge in Florida
Vets Now and the Vet Times recently got together to sponsor Sam Westhead, a Farnborough vet and occasional Vets Now locum, in his entry to the grueling Ironman 70.3 World Championship challenge in Clearwater in Florida this November.
The organisations each sponsored Sam £250 for taking part in the challenge which consisted of a 1.2 mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride and a 13.1 mile run, adding up to 70.3 miles of total racing.
We were delighted to learn this week that Sam finished 192nd overall out of 1800 competitors who came from the states and all over the world to take part in the challenge. Not everyone completes the race so for Sam to finish in this position was a major achievement.
Speaking about the race, Sam commented; "I would like to say a big thank you to Vets Now and the Vet Times for their donations and support which not only helped toward to cost of the travel to and from Florida, but gave me that extra bit of motivation to get myself through the race. The race went well - obviously it was extremely tough, the cycle in particular but I enjoyed it immensely and the training was definitely worth it!".
Well done Sam!
