From South Africa? Considering work as a veterinary surgeon in the UK?

If you’ve ever thought about working as a vet in the UK, are considering a career move or simply fancy a change of scene, this could be the perfect time to make the move. Vets Now need skilled vets like you & are offering an excellent rewards package...

Unfortunately we are unable to offer sponsorship to overseas veterinary nurses as the veterinary nurse profession is not on the UK Home Office's Skills Shortage Profession list, so obtaining entry clearance and sponsorship certificates for nurses is extremely difficult.

Getting Here:

From experience it seems to be an easy transition to the UK for most South Africans, in that both clinical standards and client care, as well as general lifestyle and culture, are similar between the two countries – making us a good match!

There's also plenty of support every step of the way from Vets Now in the UK and our local contact in South Africa.  Please click on the following link to download our  Simple Step by Step Guide to Working with Vets Now in the UK.

Getting your visa:
Though it's different for every individual, the usual way for South African veterinary professionals to gain a UK working visa is through sponsorship. Subject to a successful interview (either face-to-face or by telephone) with Vets Now and to passing our clinical skills checklist, we will be happy to sponsor you for your visa and to assist you in achieving RCVS registration (essential to work as a veterinary professional in the UK).

RCVS registration:
Good news! - Veterinary surgeon qualifications gained in South Africa are recognised by the United Kingdom’s RCVS Council under their ‘Foreign and Commonwealth qualifications’ category, provided that they are also shown to meet the minimum EU training requirements for practice only within the United Kingdom.

It generally takes between six and eight weeks for your RCVS registration to be processed, so you should plan to start the process a couple of months before you intend to start working in the UK. Vets Now will be happy to assist you throughout this straightforward process.
