Emergency vets support launch of new poison information leaflet

Vets Now 004

Vets Now is today urging pet owners to consult a new free leaflet which has been launched on keeping animals safe and preventing poisoning.

The leaflet, which has been launched by the British Veterinary Association Animal Welfare Foundation (BVA AWF) in conjunction with the Veterinary Poisons Information Service (VPIS), is a new, updated version of its popular ‘Pets and Poisons - Keeping Your Animal Safe' leaflet, first produced in 2004.

The leaflet, a valuable easy reference guide for owners on preventing poisoning in the home, in the garden or in open spaces also offers advice on what to do if you think your animal has been poisoned, a situation which Vets Now sees all too often.

Commenting on the launch of the new leaflet, Jo Leathers, Senior Veterinary Surgeon at Vets Now Gateshead said; ‘At Vets Now we see hundreds of poisoning cases every year, many of which can be easily prevented.  There are numerous household substances which can be harmful to pets, many of which can cause death.   Some are more obvious than others and this leaflet is an invaluable resource to any pet owner in providing simple and easy-to-read information on how to look after their animal and protect them from potentially harmful substances, many of which owners may not be aware of."

Pet owners can view the new leaflet by clicking here  or alternatively request a copy from BVA AWF directly be telephoning 0207 636 6541 or bva-awf@bva.co.uk stating your name and postal address, and quoting 'AWF poisons leaflet' .
