Phoebe - Gateshead

phoebe1 2After a full 6 days of home nursing and care following Phoebes spay and bout of stasis owner Angela decided Phoebe was finally well enough to be allowed outside.  However, in just a few moments curious Phoebe managed to find her way inside the Summerhouse where Angela's other rabbits are kept, and what started as an opportunity to get some fresh air and exercise soon had a devastating and traumatic result.

Phoebes meeting with the other rabbits although brief proved to be very distressful as she was aggressively attacked and cornered by a territorial rabbit more than three times her size!  Owner Angela soon stepped in to split the rabbits up, however when she spotted a large chunk of Phoebes fur and skin on the ground she knew the encounter had been extremely serious.  When Angela then examined Phoebe she discovered a very large 3 inch gash on her abdomen and another wound on her hind limb.  Immediately Angela called Vets Now Gateshead where she was advised to take Phoebe to the clinic at once.

Upon arrival Phoebe was immediately examined and treated by the Emergency Out of Hours team at Vets Now Gateshead.  Following her surgery and an overnight stay where she was continually monitored Phoebe was soon well enough to return home the following morning.  Owner Angela commented:

‘I was so worried and upset that her wound would not have enough skin left to close it over and the trauma was in such a difficult place that I was unsure what her prognosis would be. During the consultation Lauren - the vet on duty was so friendly, calm and efficient that I felt confident and more positive that Phoebe would be ok.  I was more than happy to put all my confidence in the Vets Now staff and leave Phoebe in their care.

When I spoke to the vet later in the evening she assured me Phoebe was doing well and was confident that the surgery she had done would be successful. What's more she really understood the importance of aftercare rabbits need following surgery and had even picked dandelion leaves for Phoebe to entice her to eat which I was very impressed with.

When I picked Phoebe up Lauren was still very friendly and helpful despite having been up working all night, she treated Phoebe with a great deal of care and consideration and seemed genuinely concerned. I didn't feel like she was just a statistic and just another patient, and her follow up call a few days later was lovely and beyond the call of duty.

I am hoping that I don't have to take another trip to Vets Now for my pets benefit, but at least I know that they would be in the best possible care should the worst happen and it's wonderful to know that I have this service on my doorstep should I need it.'
