Lost Piglet Dies After Suspected Prank

05/08/2008

A week old piglet which was found wandering the streets of Wellington town centre and brought to Vets Now in Telford sadly died last night.

The piglet, which was found by a teenager on his way home after a night out with friends was brought to the Vets Now clinic on Sunday morning but despite the clinic's attempts to find the piglet's owner to reunite it with its mother, the piglet became extremely ill and died.

Senior Veterinary Surgeon at Vets Now in Telford said; "The piglet was found around 2.30am on Sunday morning looking lost and disorientated, wandering around the streets of Wellington town centre. It seems that the piglet had been stolen from a farm and let loose as a prank. At Vets Now, we are used to dealing with a range of small domestic animal emergencies, some of which can admittedly be quite bizarre, but looking after a lost piglet was a real departure from our normal activities. We cared for the piglet and made every attempt to find its owner and were relieved when a local veterinary nurse agreed to look after the piglet in her smallholding; however, the separation of the piglet from its mother had caused its health to deteriorate rapidly and we were saddened to hear of its death during the night."
