Vets Now 4th Annual Congress a Record Breaking Success
30 November 2007
This year, a record breaking number of attendees poured into the Majestic Hotel in Harrogate for the three day annual Emergency and Critical Care Congress, making it the biggest and most successful Congress to date.
The event kicked off on the Wednesday night with the first ever and very much anticipated MAD Awards ceremony in recognition of staff who have shown outstanding commitment in their work for Vets Now. The entertainment continued with a dinner and television game show style quiz, putting each of the teams against each other to win a bottle of champagne.
An early start for all on the Thursday with scenes of packed lecture theatres and emergency workshops, starting with Dez Hughes' lecture on ‘The Approach of the Emergency Patient', running alongside Graham Bilbrough's ‘Placing Arterial Lines and Using Them' and Jen Devey's ‘Diabetic Keto-acidosis A to Z' .
The first ever Case Reports session was also held on the Thursday morning at Congress with Vets Now clinical staff running presentations on some of the problematic cases they have seen over the year, ranging from ‘Feline Ventricular Tachycardia' to ‘Mesenteric Torsion in a Dog'.
The lectures and workshops were not the only events drawing in the crowds - downstairs in the hotel the exhibition was running during the Thursday and Friday and delegates took full advantage of the opportunity to meet suppliers to the profession, many of whom specialise in equipment, products and services for emergency and critical care medicine. Exhibitors spoke of the overwhelmingly positive response to their stands and the exhibition was extremely well attended on both days.
Congress is also renowned for it's first class social programme and the Thursday night saw a dramatic change of attire as delegates dressed to impress for a formal dinner followed by entertainment provided by ‘Dancers Incognito' which inspired the crowds to take to the dancefloor to throw some interesting shapes!
Overall, Congress this year was deemed by delegates, exhibitors and staff to be a tremendous success with a great atmosphere and a truly unique opportunity to embrace innovative and exciting developments in emergency and critical care medicine. Here's to Congress 2008!
